FIRST IMPRESSIONS

APPEARANCE: Brambles is a shapeshifting fairy with the ability to present himself as a human. As a human, he appears as a man looking to be in his mid-20s. He has freckled skin with a particular dusting on his nose and cheeks. His hair is wavy and brown with a cream underside. ( X )

FAIRY TRAITS: Sometimes, Brambles' human form may come coupled with the traits of his fairy form. This may include red fairy wings, red gerbera flowers growing in his hair, a long beige horse tail, brown antlers and brown doeish ears. He only changes like this when he feels safe to do so. He can also shrink himself down to be palm-sized which most likely happens when he is low on magic, afraid, or eager to conceal himself from potential danger. ( X )

FAIRY FORM: His most authentic form is his Canterwit (flower fairy) form which involves no human traits at all. In this form, he is a small ungulate creature bearing similar resemblance to a horse and a deer. He appears around the size of a foal (baby horse) when transformed in this way. This is Brambles appearing as the most "authentic" version of himself. ( X )

FASHION: He loves knitwear and has a fondness for cold climates. He dresses comfortably and casually with lots of warm tones, browns and beiges.

DEMEANOUR: Brambles is a kindhearted, cheerful and optimistic character with a zest for life and a knack for learning. Despite his excessively whimsical personality, he is very intelligent and loves learning as much as he can about the world around him through life experiences and reading factual books. He's warm, kind and friendly.

SCENT: He carries a constant aroma of daisies.

SCARS: Brambles does not have many scars. At worst, he has a few nips and bumps here and there, but nothing major.

VOICE: When visiting Earth, Brambles has spent the most of his time in England and has picked up the dialect from here. His accent is identifiable as a Northern English one, coupled with slang that might be a little confusing to hear. The sound of his voice is airy, warm and kind.

FLOWER GROWTH

As a flower fairy, flower growth is Brambles' primary power. Canterwit are creatures who have their magic fuelled by positive emotions and experiences. The happier he is and the more that people enjoy the flowers he grows, the more power he has. The passive act of someone smelling or admiring a flower that he has grown will strengthen his magic. He keeps his magic hidden to the best of his ability when he is disguised as a human, but sometimes he may drop a few petals here and there. Flowers also bloom when he feels intense emotions. In his fairy form, red daisies grow behind him while he walks and passively grow all around him when he's happy (in his hair, on the ground, etc.)

TRANSFORMATION

Brambles is a shapeshifter, capable of controlling his form with limitations. While mingling with humans, he mostly appears disguised - with no visible 'fairy' traits on show. However, as his authentic self, he has flowers growing in his hair, long pointed ears and red fairy wings. Like all fairies, he can shrink himself down into being palm-sized. Changing his size and shape aren't his limitations - since he can fully transform into his Canterwit (animal) form.

OFFENSIVE & DEFENSIVE MAGIC

While Canterwit are usually gentle and friendly creatures, they've learned through past experiences that the ability to defend one's self is a necessary life skill while navigating a world that isn't as kind as their own. For offensive magic, Brambles has the ability to summon bramble vines and make them grow prickles alongside plant magic attacks. His weapon of choice is a sword - the strikes of which can physically affect his target if he desires. With his plant magic, his strikes can burn, erode, paralyse and poison. He's also capable of using healing magic.

WEAKNESSES

There are several fairy-repellants which harshly affect a fairy like him. Iron is the worst offender - any contact of iron to Brambles' skin will badly burn him. He greatly dislikes bread and will avoid it at all costs. Bread is associated with industry and the taming of nature, and as such, seems to be disliked by some types of fairies. He also dislikes bell chimes - especially church bells. The ringing of bells can confuse and disorient him.

STORY & LORE

Brambles is a Canterwit - which are a magical race of fairy creatures that represent a unique type of flower! At the start of Spring, they leave their home realm of Anther to travel to Earth and grow their flowers, and by Autumn they are exhausted and return home to recharge their magic. The passing appreciation of humans and other creatures enjoying their flowers and finding use for them gives them magical strength. As their magic is powered by positive emotions, they participate in uplifting activities to prepare them for the next Spring cycle! To encourage their passions and friendships, Canterwit align themselves into one of four houses for friendly competiton and allyship among fellow housemates. Brambles is aligned with house Alderley - the house that values knowledge, which is a perfect match for him as he is a total bookworm! He lives above a library and pours himself into his studies while documenting as much as he can.

In the early days of his life, Brambles lived with his father, who was the owner of a travelling horse-and-cart style book shop. His father was an avid bookworm, which had a huge influence on Brambles' interest in learning and reading. To make a living, combined with charity work, their small family travelled all over Anther with the intention of sharing their love of knowledge with many others who did not have easy access to books. By the time they reached the capital of Aspenfey, they were exhausted and in great need of rest. The King of Anther took notice of their travelling book stall. As it turns out, the King was tremendously passionate about reading with a great interest in many of the book titles they carried, and both he and Brambles' father befriended each other on the spot. The King could see that they were poor and exhausted, and very generously offered them a place of permanent residence here in the capital - with the keys to their new place they opened what would become one of the most successful libraries in all of Anther. The leap from travelling to living in the glistening royal capital of Aspenfey was a lot to take in, but soon after Brambles made his very first friend, a young prince named Brush. To this day, they are inseparable. Like his father before him, Brambles secured a perfect fit into house Alderley, of which he is incredibly devoted to. Nowadays, he spends most of his time working in the library, right up until winter when he and Brush take to Earth to perform their flower growing duty and document all their adventures. This lead to Brambles landing the role of being the realm's Scribe.

REGULAR HUMAN

Brambles was born as "Bramley Alden" in the North East of England on February 14th, Valentines Day. Tragically, his mother died during childbirth, leaving his father to raise him as a single parent. His parents were very excited for their newborn and the sudden death of his mother was an incredibly traumatic ordeal for his father. Unable to raise his son in the home he shared with his wife due to the crushing grief he felt, Brambles' father sold their family home and bought a caravan to live a nomadic lifestyle to raise his son, putting the rest of the money in savings for Brambles' future. Brambles grew up with joy and grace - he was such a happy, considerate child which helped his father to heal from how much he reminded him of his mother. Because he never met his mother, Brambles never really felt the same sort of grief his father did, although he did feel guilty being the cause of her passing. His father redirected any of those feelings to stop Brambles from dwelling on them. His childhood was filled with joy, laughter and books. Many, many books.

On the road in the caravan, Brambles loved every moment of the experience. He adored travelling to all sorts of book shops with his father to read everything he could get his hands on. His father was delighted to see his passion for books passed down to his son, and just like his mother, he aspired to become a florist. After spending his entire childhood on the road, his father decided that it was time for them to settle down. They purchased a bookshop in Durham so that Brambles could go into education to further his studies and passion for flowers. They named the store "Daisy Trails & Fairy Tales", or Daisy Trails for short, because Brambles loves daisies and they were also the favourite flower of his late mother. It felt like a perfect way to honour her.

Now fully trained as a florist and book seller, Brambles works in Daisy Trails selling books and flowers. He went to Durham University and graduated with honours. He intends to find a job in a more specialised field, but at present, he is so content working in Daisy Trails and doesn't feel ready to leave it.
